Guild History
Much and more has happened in the past 12 years during the existence of our guild and its former incarnations, Excidium and The Omega Circle. The Historica section is a chronological overview of our major milestones, recollecting the evolution of a Diablo 2 guild established in 2000 to a Guild Wars 1 Alpha Testing guild in 2004 and the Guild Wars 2 guild it is today.

2000
In June 2000, a guild named The Omega Circle has been founded for the freshly released Diablo II under the leadership of its webmaster Vindicare. While the game itself was rather primitive (even for today's standards, where games tend to be easier, simpler and more console-friendly), the core members of this guild laid the foundation for the years to come, as the market for online games and online role playing games in particular evolved rapidly.

2002
The Omega Circle made its first true MMO appearance when Dark Age of Camelot released its first European PvP server: Camlann. It was fun while it lasted, but the FFA PvP ruleset and its inevitable ganking squads have sent the server to an early grave.

2003
After the slow death of Camlann, the guild moved on to the highly anticipated and equally disappointing Star Wars Galaxies. Despite being the host of countless fond memories, the game's lackluster content ultimately failed to entertain and motivate in the long run.

2003 - 2004
Scanning the - still underdeveloped - MMO market, Anarchy Online offered the content SWG was missing. And for the time being (i.e. until Guild Wars had been announced) it provided The Omega Circle with a new home.

2004 - 2005
In February 2004, Vindicare made his way into the Closed Alpha stage of Guild Wars as co-administrator of the German fansite "Wartower". Subsequently, the whole Omega Circle was allowed into Closed Alpha testing and left its humble mark in Guild Wars development over the course of the next 17 months.

2005 - 2012
Between the releases of Guild Wars 1 & 2, the guild has been loyal - on and off - to Arena.Net's franchise. However, the release of an overly cartoonish but also overly successful MMORPG in 2004 led to a major schism in the guild. While the OC leadership refused to play said game, major parts of the guild left and scattered to embrace Blizzard once again. After this major change, the remnants of The Omega Circle were renamed to Excidium.

2006 - 2009
Many games have been tried and dropped in the past few years. However, two serious engagements with substantial rebuilds are worth to be noted in guild history.
In 2006, Excidium joined Everquest II's first and freshly created PvP server. In 2008, the guild moved on to Warhammer Online's "Open RvR" server Eltharion.

2010 - 2012
While Vindicare and Axiom kept the guild alive (in terms of maintaining website and forums) these years are best described as an era of cryogenic sleep. That said, Arena.Net's announcement for a 2012 release of Guild Wars 2 has breathed new life into the guild's remnants. The result is a seriously planned and executed relaunch of the guild for what looks to be the most promising MMO of all time: Guild Wars 2.
