Effects
In Guild Wars 2, an effect constitutes any kind of status that (positively or negatively) alters the standard characteristics of a character or MOB. Active effects on your character can be seen in the effects monitor (directly above your health orb). Active effects on a selected target can be seen underneath their health bar.

Effects Overview


There are four categories of Effects: Boons, Conditions, Control and Other.
  1. Boons:

    • Aegis
    • Fury
    • Might
    • Protection
    • Regeneration
    • Retaliation
    • Stability
    • Swiftness
    • Vigor

  2. Conditions:

    • Bleeding
    • Blind
    • Burning
    • Chilled
    • Confusion
    • Crippled
    • Fear
    • Immobilized
    • Poison
    • Vulnerability
    • Weakness

  3. Control:

    • Controlling movement
      • Slow/prevent movement
        • Cripple
        • Chilled
        • Immobilize
      • Rise/fall in water
        • Sink
        • Float
      • Limit enemy movement beyond a line or circle
        • Wards
      • Deter enemies from attacking/Force enemies to move
        • AoE skills
    • Controlling damage
      • Reduce the damage enemies can deal
        • Blind
        • Chilled
        • Weakness
        • Daze
      • Force opponents to decide between dealing damage and keeping their own health high
        • Confusion
        • Retaliation
      • Block/Deflect attacks
        • Skills like Shield of Absorption or Whirling Defense
      • Other
        • Controlling enemies' line of sight by taking advantage of your environment
    • Controlling movement and damage
      • Fear
      • Push
      • Launch
      • Pull
      • Knockdown

  4. Other:

    • Distortion
